5 Ways to Wear Jeans

Hello again lovely people. I thought I would create a post on casual outfit ideas as many of my other fashion posts have been geared towards the formal/work attire side. Here are a couple of fall/winter outfits that I have put together that fall on the casual side, so perfect for weekends lounging around or going out with family and friends.

I also just want to note that because a lot of my clothes have either been thrifted or I have owned for a long period of time, I understand that I cannot leave links to the exact items. Due to the fact that I gravitate towards "classic" pieces, it should not be hard to find your own version when shopping, or thrifting- even if it is one of a kind.

You will begin to notice that I repeat a lot of pieces in my wardrobe, as they are multi-faceted items that can work with various seasons, be it autumn, winter spring or summer. One of my main goals of promoting sustainable fashion with my readers is to attempt to portray that you don't need to have the latest and greatest fast fashion pieces to be stylish. Rather you can curate your own unique style by also being a mindful consumer, if you find pieces that are versatile and that will work with many items in your wardrobe. You will also notice that along with my layering techniques, I tend to opt for neutral colours but I like to add structure and dimension to my outfits by investing in quality coats/vests. Because lets be honest, that is the only part people see when its cold out anyway.

OUTFIT #1: The Canadian Tuxedo

People think that it's impossible to wear skirts in the winter. Albeit, best to wear them in the autumn, but wear them at your own risk in the winter. Paired with some cozy tights- you're solid. This is a type of outfit I would wear if I were to go out with friends. It also doubles as my graffiti outfit, you know when I bring my spray cans and vandalize all of Toronto- I joke. The tortured artist in me wishes there was an element of truth in that, but I digress.

  • Turtle Neck - Value Village

  • Motto Skirt - Top Shop

  • Jean Jacket - Tommy Hilfiger (not mine LOL)

  • Boots - Alfred Sung

  • Hat - Le Chateau

  • Belt - Value Village (originally Club Monaco)

*As I have stated in previous posts, I like to pair tight-fitting items with more boxy items like this jean jacket to give the outfit more dimension. You can also see how easily this can be turned into a spring/summer outfit if you were to change the top and remove the tights. Refer to the image below. I wore this skirt out last summer without the tights and swapped it with a mesh top. Literally have no idea what I am doing with my hands...

You can opt for no belt, I didn't need the belt, but I just loved how 90s the whole outfit looked, and I think the belt played a role in that. If I hat a black belt, I would have opted for that instead, but this worked just fine.

OUTFIT #2: Sunday Fun-day

What? Ya'll don't go visit fire stations on the weekend? Fire Station 227 is where it is at folks. If you were to ask my friends what they see me wearing most, it would probably be this. Jeans, a cozy jumper or t-shirt if its summer and comfy shoes- be it converse, vans or boots.

  • Cotton jumper - Value Village (originally H&M)

  • Distressed jeans - Banana Republic

  • Black trenchcoat - Club Monaco

  • Blundstones -Value Village

  • Hat - Banana Republic

  • Socks- Roots

  • Watch- Fossil

If it is colder weather, it always helps to layer with a cozy scarf and you can opt to switch the hat for a warmer hat. Coffee also helps too!!

OUTFIT #3: Autumn Vibes

This outfit is again quite casual but the vest is what sets it apart. If you have a structured vest to layer on top of a plain sweater, it gives the look more dimension.

Salt and Pepper vest - Club Monaco

Jeans- Banana Republic

Hat - Le Chateau

Watch- Fossil

Outfit #4: Monday Blues

I used the same tactic here where I kept the outfit very simple just dark wash jeans and a black jumper, but I added a quilted bomber jacket on top to add more structure and dimension to the look.
