Broken Trunk

My aim is to support individuals who may struggle with feeling disconnected from their bodies to ignite their creative fire by stepping out of their minds and tapping into their bodies by nurturing spaces where they can feel safe, seen, inspired, expressive, playful, and fully alive by embodying self-inquiry and self-compassion.

About me

I grew up in a family with complex mental health issues and addictions, which equipped me with a well-stocked toolkit composed of people-pleasing tendencies, perfectionism, hypervigilance, and having this need to be resourceful, which led me down the path I am on. On the bright side, I am earnestly (naively) optimistic and see the goodness in people despite their self-sabotaging behaviours and compulsions.

I hold both a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Psychology (2016) and a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Administration (2017) from Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) formerly known as Ryerson University. FYI- I am still paying off my student debts. Whereas my imposter syndrome has paid dividends. Who needs financial stability when you can nurture your critical thinking skills?! That ought to pay off, right? In this economy? Think again, bucko!

Over the past decade, I have worked in various capacities (research, policy, evaluation, counselling, community engagement and marketing/communications) within the federal government, and the majority of it within the non-profit sector. Both my passion and lived experience merged when I worked alongside families and community members whom experienced intergenerational trauma in conjunction with complex mental health issues and comorbid addictions. It felt like home, but also there was transformational healing for all parties involved (mostly me). I discovered that I intellectualized alot of my problems, without many tangible solutions, until I turned to somatic modalities such as Yoga and breath-work. I graduated with my 200HR Yoga Teacher Training from YogaSpace in 2022 and have been finding ways to integrate mind-body-spirit connection in my daily practice and share it with others ever since.

My Story

As a young child, I was fascinated by my Grandmother's ability to take things that were ordinary and make them exquisite (she was a multi-disciplinary artist). I inherited a natural awe and curiosity from her that shaped my perception of the world around me. Her greatest teaching was that people from all walks of life can endure extreme hardship and yet come out the other side with compassion, grit and integrity while allowing room for growth and expansion through play, creative arts, and by choosing to see beauty even amidst pain and suffering.  The fact that I am her granddaughter means a great deal to me, and I find purpose and passion in connecting with others that allows for this truth to be shared with a nice dose of humility, humour, and an openness to different perspectives.
